Freddy - Rat Terrier

Please meet Freddy.  What a sweet little dog!!!  He was turned into a high kill shelter with his momma - which is always sad.  But Freddy was already 7 years old when his owners decided to let him go!  I can't imagine how difficult it must be for a dog of that age to readjust and figure out a new way to live.  I have no idea what his life was like before he came into ODTR - but right now he is living a really good life while waiting for his FOREVER.  This boy is a low maintenance dog.  He loves to be cuddled and snuggled - but he is just as happy to follow you through the house and watch the action from his favorite spot.  He has perfect house manners, he is neutered, UTD on his vaccines and on HW preventative.  Freddy has a lot of years left - and he has so much love to give!!  If you are looking for a little dog (approx. 15 lbs) that is past the puppy stage - but still young and active - Freddy could be for you!!  He loves to travel - but is just as happy to stay home.  He really is a perfect little gentleman!  You would love him - we all do!!

Dexter - Pure Bred Beagle Boy ADOPTED!!!!!! (Update below)

Please meet Dexter the 6 month old neglected beagle boy!  Dexter has spend his entire life at the end of a chain - on the outside of human interaction and companionship.  Poor Dexter was just a tiny baby when he was thrown outside on a chain with NO KENNEL to go into on those cold winter days last winter.  His only warmth and companion was a stuffed animal - about his very own size.  And he cuddled that stuffy - but still was so cold.  Finally a wonderful, kind neighbor lady went to Dexter's "owners" home - knocked on the door and DEMANDED that Dexter be given some basic care!  Then she went to the store and bought him a dog house.  On the REALLY cold days - or when it rained or sleeted - This sweet lady would go get Dexter and bring him to her home.  There he found the only love he had ever known.  She would play with him, snuggled on the couch with him, take him for walks when she could, she even began housebreaking Dexter.  But every evening - no matter what - Dexter went back to his "owners" house to be chained up again.  Finally after enough complaints - they started bringing Dexter into the house and locking him in the bathroom when it was horribly cold outside.  Remember - Dexter was a small puppy at this time!!  Anyway, We have Dexter now - and he is safe and warm and everything a puppy should be.  He is being fostered in a loving home where he is being taught all about playtime, and healthy food, and snuggles... his life is good.  Dexter is now neutered, UTD on his vaccinations, working hard on house training, he loves kids, other dogs - Dexter LOVES LIFE!!  Dexter is looking forward to being adopted - maybe by YOU!!!
Update:  Dexter & Montana (5 yr old german shepard) hit it off right away.  They were running around the yard and playing within minutes.  The new mom & dad were amazed how well Montana was behaving (said she doesn't like people). She was a perfect hostess and showed no signs of agression.  We think Dexter is just what she needed.  They had a terrier that they had passed and we think she was just sad or depressed.  Montana & Dexter were very happy and played the whole time we were there.   All were very happy and Dexter is now "Home"  :)

Their fenced in yard was set up very nicely with a Large dog house and a doggie door that goes into the garage.  Then the door from the garage to the house also has a doggie door.  AND, the dogs have their own bedroom with beds and everything including a queen size bed at their disposal.  They are planning on using baby gates for the kithen area until Dexter is settled in while they have to be gone.

The new family were very happy that they will have the whole holiday weekend to play with and walk the dogs.

They have a very nice place and the new brother & sister will be very well taken care of.

Stewie - Pug mix

Stewie is a precious young man looking for a home where he can give and receive lots of love!!  Stewie is a cute little dog - looks like a small yellow lab - with the tiniest of underbites.  When you meet him you have to giggle - and Stewie loves that!!  He is housetrained, neutered, UTD on his vaccinations - he is ready for a home of his very own!!  Please consider Stewie when you think of a new companion!

Neketa - Pure Bred Siberian Husky

This is Nakita.  He is a full-blooded red and white Siberian husky.  He is seven years old and is bi-eyed, meaning he has 1 blue eye and 1 brown eye.  They may not match, but I think they can look right into your soul!  Nakita had been living outside on a chain for the past few years, although there was a time when he was in the house.  Well that time has come again and he seems pretty happy about it.  We are refreshing his memory on the house-training and are working on crate training as well.  He came to ODTR with yeast infections in both ears, a wound on his neck and plenty of tics tagging along for a free ride.  He is now getting ear cleanings followed by medicine in his ears, antibiotics for the infected wound on his neck and frontline plus to rid him of his free-loaders.  I think Nakita understands he is being helped, because he just sat there for over a half hour while his neck was cleaned and debris was removed and he moans when you rub his ears to get the medicine all the way down.  He is pretty laid back for a husky, but he will run if he gets out.  This is typical of a husky, because they are known escape artists and were bred to run while pulling sleds.  Huskies have lots of fur and blow their coats twice a year, although they do shed year-round.  This does not make them outside dogs!!!  They and your house just need more maintenance, but their love and antics make it worth it.  Nakita walks well on leash, rides well in the car and also knows how to sit, shake with both paws and speak, but in true husky fashion can be stubborn and refuse at times.  He also gets along well with other dogs and loves people.  He seems more cautious around men so there may be something in his past that will require time for him to fully trust again.  Nakita is heartworm negative and on prevention, neutered, up to date on shots and is microchipped.  The only thing he needs now is a good, loving home with a family to call his own.

Lucky - Shelty/Dashchund mix ADOPTED!!!

Meet Lucky! Lucky is a 1 1/2 year old Sheltie/Dachshund mix. Lucky's family is moving to a non-pet friendly apartment, so Lucky must find a new forever family. Lucky is neutered, UTD on vaccinations, housebroken, and crate trained. He's never had table scraps, so he doesn't beg. He's not allowed on the furniture. (I know he's on the sofa in one of the photos) That's because the neighbor lady the took his pictures for us, put him up there for a pose. He was very uncomfortable, and jumped down as soon as she told him OK. He's such a happy boy! He's got lots of energy to burn!! Lucky needs a family that's going to spend lots of time with him and give him lots of exercise! Is that family yours?

Keira - Boxador - ADOPTED!!! (Update below)

Please meet Keira! Keira is a nearly 5 year old boxer mix. We believe boxador. Keira is a really well adjusted love of a dog. She has always been loved and cared for - but due to an unfortunate circumstance - she has found herself looking for a new home..She is housebroken, UTD on vaccinations, heartworm tested, and on preventative, spayed and crate trained. She loves other dogs and even CATS (GASP!!). She is still full of energy and loves nothing more than quality time with her loved ones. She is leash trained, doesn't wander (she'll stay put!) and she loved going on her daily run and playing frisbee in the yard with her former companion. She did go thru puppy training classes when she was very young and has retained those manners! She is looking for an active family that has time to spend with her. If you'd like to make Keira a part of your family please let us know!! You wouldn't be disappointed!!! Look at that face... nothing but love and happiness is in store for her new family! Could that be yours? UPDATE:  (New companion called one of our volunteers.  This is what was relayed:) She absolutely loves her to death.  Said she is the best dog she has ever had.  She took her to her moms her to meet the little dogs. Keira did very well.  She has been out and played frisbee several times. And has been on several walks.  Lori has had several friends and family come to meet her, Keira has minded her manners with all of them.  She sleeps in bed with Lor (which is what she was hoping for0.  She and her mom stopped to get port-a-pit chicken, Keira barked at the guy once, as if she was protecting, but when Lori told her it was OK she quit.  She has had no potty accidents.  She was left loose in the house for 3 hours last night while Lori attended a graduation, with no potty accidents.  She has been the perfect pet thus far.  Lori couldn't be happier and said she just LOVES her!!!  OH!  and she takes off running and runs right into the lake, like she doesn't realize it's water until it's too late, but swims like crazy as soon as she hits the water.  She has been swimming 3 times already since she has been there.  She also has had perfect recall for her if she starts to wander to the neighbors yard, all Lori has to do is call her back and she comes... She has been exhausted at the end of the last 2 days!    Another perfect match!!!
